mk: yeah, but there's no shortcut.  well!  actually!  the gospel is the shortcut!

the gospel is the shortcut to happiness + holiness, because the gospel means we don't have to earn or suffer for those things.  we may claim them right this second.

but i don't seem to be claiming them.  i seem to be aiming for something other than happiness + holiness...  can you relate?
