naming

there is so much godly value in naming things!  God made names part of the beginning and end of the Bible.  in Genesis, God named us and then let us name things.  when we get to heaven, "He will also give [each of us] a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it" (Rev 2:17).

(also, this is sexy, "On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS" (Rev 19:16).  i searched "thigh revelation" in biblegateway.com to get that one!)

this is why it's beneficial to read:  in a book on art/beauty/church/worship i just read the simple phrase "it is liturgical art"  and aha!  if there is liturgical art, that means there is non-liturgical art!  i've been pondering christian art and feeling guilty and unsure about what i ought to write and now i see that there are two valid and glorious options.  i can aspire to create liturgical art or i can freely create non.  i was released by the name "liturgical art".

also, sermons.  Rev. Luke Brodine preached on Ps 103 at RUF last week and said "bring your anger to church.  let it be shaped by worship."  WHOA.  I probably should have known that, but I didn't KNOW it until he said it.  articulated it.  named it.

i think this is why i write.
