a fun project

from the blog fine little day

when i was little, my mom used a wooden spoon to spank us.  she drew
a sad face on one side "jesse, when you disobey, you are sad and out from under the umbrella of authority."
*spankspankspank*
she drew a happy face on the other side to show that after a spanking i was restored to safety under authority.

i also used to sing "happy happy happy is the child who obeys" and, with a terrified look on my face, use my fingers to push my cheeks into a smile because i was supposed to have a "happy attitude."

all the brainwashing is so funny to me now (the only unfunny part is that i have ZERO anger management skills).
but i am longing to know HOW to raise little kids in the gospel.  jared thinks he's got it down with his motto: "a foundation of mercy."

while i ponder how to make sure i don't ever have a single sorrow with my children (b/c isn't that what God promises hoho), i will decorate some spoons.

Umbrella of authority!! Those words just made my day. Sounds like they did some good Dobson reading. A friend told me that his mom learned from Dobson that there is this muscle in your shoulder that causes debilitating pain when pinched, but no lasting damage. I couldn't contain my laughter at the thought of his mom taking him down with a shoulder pinch.
