GONE WITH THE WIND as devotional

i have a (bad? good?) habit of interpreting books and movies as christian allegories.  here is my application of Gone With the Wind to my spiritual life.

[thematic spoiler alert]

Ashley Wilkes - Scarlett's pedestal love who marries another - is every idol, escape, and broken cistern in my life.  blogs, jared's approval, getting skinny.  i waste my life thinking Ashley Wilkes is what i want when if i could ever grasp him, I would realize not only is he NOT REAL, but I DONT EVEN WANT HIM!  and the worst of it is, Ashley Wilkes loves to torture me.  he keeps a false ideal of me on a pedestal but won't give me any love.

Rhett Butler - the bad man who understands and cherishes Scarlett's true nature, helps her, cares for her, but won't be controlled or manipulated by her - is GOD.  He loves me in ways i don't want, but it is real love, and someday i will realize i want it.  He sometimes abandons me, sometimes doesn't rescue me, but on the other hand that isn't true.  He will not be codependent with me.  He is very exciting.  He refuses to help me look good.  He is not a tame lion.

i don't want to waste my life on Ashley Wilkes when i HAVE Rhett Butler.

(read Gone With the Wind so we can discuss!  don't watch the movie, Clark Gable is NOT God)
